EddyCurrent Lorrie

In 2017, we signed a long-term contract for the performance of a non-destructive study (NDS). This study is being conducted on behalf of Amsterdam municipal transport company GVB.

Ultrasonic and EddyCurrent

The contract comprises two components: Ultrasonic study and EddyCurrent-measurements.

Ultrasonic studies are performed on railway tracks, in order to signal and predict any cracks wider than 5 millimetres. Using EddyCurrent-measurements, onset-ruptures can be detected reliably.

The world’s only EC Lorry

Measurements can often only be performed at night. Since night time measurements take up a lot of time, performing measurements using EddyCurrent using the currently available manual tool is not always efficient enough for our clients. To that end, we have developed the EddyCurrent Lorry. We are the only company in the world to use a Lorry of this type.

Measuring railway tracks at 20 kph

This innovation allows us to measure both railway tracks simultaneously at a speed of 20 kilometres per hour. On top of that, the EddyCurrent-Lorry ensures that beginning cracks or tear with a depth between 0.5 to 5 millimetres are immediately detected and documented. Deeper cracks are subsequently measured using Ultrasonic. In addition, all findings are captured on the GIS chart.  GVB is looking for subsequent steps that will allow them to expand the lifespan of the railway tracks preventatively in future.
